Acer saccharum is very similar to Acer nigrum the two species are very similar and are said to be the same. Medium to dark-green leaves in the spring and turn yellow, reddish orange or red in fall. Tolerates partial shade, likes a well-drained, moderately moist, fertile soil. Not salt tolerant.
