'Trompenburg' Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Trompenburg’ is a distinctive Japanese maple best known for its large, glossy leaves with strongly recurved lobes, giving the foliage a dramatic, claw-like appearance. Spring growth emerges deep maroon to burgundy, quickly developing into a rich purple-red that holds exceptionally well through summer, even in brighter light.

Leaves are thicker and more leathery than many Japanese maples, contributing to excellent heat tolerance and color retention. In fall, ‘Trompenburg’ turns brilliant scarlet to crimson-red, producing a vivid and reliable autumn display. The habit is upright and rounded, forming a bold, architectural small tree.
