Acer palmatum ‘Hefner’s Red Select’ is a choice upright red Japanese maple selected for its excellent leaf color, strong form, and reliable performance. Leaves emerge deep burgundy-red in spring, hold their rich color well through summer with minimal fading, and turn brilliant crimson to scarlet in fall.

The foliage is finely cut but fuller and slightly heavier than laceleaf types, giving the tree a refined yet substantial appearance. ‘Hefner’s Red Select’ develops an upright to rounded habit with good branching and a balanced canopy, making it an excellent specimen tree.

It performs best in partial shade, especially in warmer climates, and prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Protection from hot afternoon sun and drying winds helps maintain foliage quality. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8.
