Columnar Norway Maple

Acer platanoides ‘Columnare’ is a narrow, upright selection of Norway maple valued for its tight columnar form and strong tolerance of urban conditions. Leaves are broad and five-lobed, emerging bright green in spring, remaining deep green through summer, and turning yellow to yellow-orange in fall.

This cultivar maintains a strictly upright, vertical habit, making it an excellent choice where space is limited but a substantial shade tree is still desired. Branching is strong and dense, providing structure without excessive spread.

It thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts to a wide range of soils, including clay and compacted urban soils, as long as drainage is adequate. ‘Columnare’ tolerates pollution, wind, heat, and road salt and is hardy in USDA Zones 4–7.
