Summertime Amur Maackia

Maackia amurensis ‘Summertime’ (Summertime™ Amur Maackia) is a compact deciduous tree with a rounded to upright-oval habit, featuring silvery new foliage that matures to dark green. Upright clusters of creamy white, pea-like flowers appear in midsummer, and the bark develops attractive mottled bronze to olive tones with age. This University of Minnesota selection is especially valued for its smaller mature size and cold hardiness.

Excellent as a small shade tree, specimen, or street tree for tighter spaces. Its compact size makes it more manageable than the species, while still offering silvery spring foliage, fragrant summer flowers, and attractive bark. It is also noted for urban tolerance and few serious pest or disease issues.  

Care:
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Water regularly during establishment, then only during extended dry periods. Minimal pruning is needed beyond early structural shaping. Avoid poorly drained sites for best long-term performance.
