Variegated Hedge Maple

Acer campestre ‘Carnival’ is a colorful, compact variegated hedge maple valued for its cream-edged leaves flushed with pink in spring. New growth emerges with strong pink and rose tones, maturing to green centers with creamy-white margins through summer. In fall, foliage turns soft yellow, extending seasonal interest.

The tree develops a dense, rounded to oval crown with good branching and a slower growth rate than the species, making it well suited for smaller landscapes. Compared to many maples, it shows excellent tolerance to urban conditions, heat, wind, and pruning.

‘Carnival’ grows best in full sun to partial shade (best color in sun) and adapts to a wide range of soils, including clay, provided drainage is adequate. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8, it is also more tolerant of dry conditions than most maples once established.
