Acer saccharum ‘Coleman’ is a narrow, columnar sugar maple selected for its tight upright habit, strong central leader, and classic sugar maple performance in spaces where traditional sugar maples are too broad. It delivers the durability and fall color of sugar maple in a much more space-efficient form.

Spring foliage emerges bright green, maturing to rich medium green through summer with a dense, vertical canopy. In fall, ‘Coleman’ produces brilliant shades of golden yellow, orange, and orange-red, often vivid and consistent in cooler climates. Branching remains upright and well-spaced, maintaining a clean, formal profile.

‘Coleman’ performs best in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soils. As with other sugar maples, it does not tolerate compacted soils, poor drainage, or heavy salt exposure, making it best suited for lawns, boulevards with good soil prep, and institutional sites.
