Davey Sugar Maple

Acer saccharum ‘Davey’ is a superior sugar maple cultivar selected for its excellent branching structure, uniform oval habit, and reliable performance in landscape and urban settings. It was developed to provide the classic sugar maple look with improved form and durability over seed-grown trees.

Spring foliage emerges bright green, maturing to rich medium-to-dark green through summer and forming a dense, symmetrical canopy. In fall, ‘Davey’ produces strong yellow, orange, and red-orange tones, often consistent and evenly distributed across the canopy. While fall color may be slightly more restrained than cultivars like ‘Bonfire’, it is dependable and attractive year after year.

‘Davey’ performs best in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soils. Like all sugar maples, it does not tolerate compacted soils, poor drainage, or heavy salt exposure, making it best suited for lawns, parks, and high-quality streetscapes with good soil preparation.
