Henry's Maple

Acer henryi (Henry’s Maple) is an elegant, lesser-known deciduous maple native to central China, valued for its unusual trifoliate leaves, graceful habit, and dependable fall color. The leaves resemble those of vineleaf maple, emerging fresh green in spring, remaining clean through summer, and turning bright yellow, orange, and red in autumn.

The tree develops an upright to rounded form, often multi-stemmed, with a light, airy canopy and smooth gray bark that adds subtle winter interest. Growth is moderate, and the overall appearance is refined rather than coarse.

Acer henryi performs best in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soils. It benefits from protection from hot afternoon sun and drying winds and is best suited to cooler climates. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8.
