Acer miyabei ‘Morton’ (commonly marketed as STATE STREET® maple) is a selected cultivar of Miyabe maple prized for its exceptional toughness, strong branch structure, and urban adaptability. It is widely used where reliability and durability are critical.

Leaves are thick, glossy, and dark green, heavier in texture than most maples. Fall color is typically clear yellow to yellow-orange, providing a clean but understated autumn display. The foliage resists scorch and holds well through summer heat.

‘Morton’ develops a dense, upright-oval to rounded crown with a strong central leader and excellent wind resistance. Growth is moderate, producing a long-lived, structurally sound shade tree.

This cultivar thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts well to clay, compacted, and alkaline soils. It tolerates heat, drought once established, wind, pollution, and urban conditions better than many maples. Hardy in USDA Zones 4–8.
