Acer Palmatum 'Aureo Variegatum'
Aureo Variegatum Japanese Maple
Acer palmatum ‘Aureo-Variegatum’ is a luminous variegated Japanese maple prized for its golden-yellow and creamy white variegation that brightens shaded landscapes. Leaves emerge soft green with irregular yellow to cream markings, often blushed with pink in spring. Variegation remains attractive through summer, and fall color shifts to warm tones of yellow, orange, and soft red.
This cultivar forms an upright to rounded habit with graceful branching and moderate growth. Its lighter foliage makes it an excellent contrast plant among darker evergreens and green-leaved shrubs.
Best grown in partial shade to protect the variegation from scorch, it prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and shelter from hot afternoon sun and drying winds. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8.
Mature size:
Width: 10–15 ft
Height: 12–18 ft
Ideal for specimen planting, woodland gardens, courtyards, and Asian-inspired landscapes, Acer palmatum ‘Aureo-Variegatum’ is valued for its bright foliage, elegant form, and refined seasonal interest.
