Hosta Crested Surf

Crested Surf Hosta

Hosta 'Crested Surf' — a medium-sized hosta valued for its strongly rippled foliage and crested leaf tips that give the plant a wave-like appearance. The medium green to blue-green leaves form a full mound with pronounced movement and texture, making it especially distinctive in shaded gardens. Pale lavender flowers rise above the foliage in midsummer, adding soft seasonal color while the textured foliage remains the main ornamental feature.

Type: Perennial

Mature Size:
Width: 28–36 in
Height: 14–18 in (to ~24 in in flower)

USDA Zones: 3a–8b

Form: Dense, rounded mound

Light: Partial shade to full shade; best texture in filtered shade

Soil: Moist, well-drained soils rich in organic matter

Water: Moderate; prefers evenly moist soil

Wildlife: Attracts hummingbirds and bees

Features & Landscape Uses:
A distinctive textured hosta for woodland gardens, shade borders, collector plantings, and mixed hosta collections. Pairs especially well with smooth-leaved gold or variegated hostas and fine-textured ferns.

Care:
Maintain consistent moisture and mulch annually to keep roots cool. Protect from strong afternoon sun to preserve foliage quality. Remove spent flower stalks after bloom and clean old foliage in early spring. Divide mature clumps every few years if needed. 🌿
