Juniperus communis — commonly called common juniper — is a highly variable evergreen conifer that can grow as a low spreading shrub or an upright narrow tree depending on the selection. It is valued for its sharp, needle-like blue-green to gray-green foliage and berry-like cones that mature to a bluish-black color. Its rugged adaptability and natural form make it useful in both formal and naturalized landscapes.
