Pinus Longaeva Sherwood Compact
Sherwood Compact Ancient Pine
Pinus longaeva ‘Sherwood Compacta’
Sherwood Compact Bristlecone Pine forms a small, dense cone of ascending branches. Green needles with pale undersides radiate around the shoots and add a subtle two-tone effect.
The naturally orderly crown develops slowly and requires little shaping. Give this long-lived conifer a visible position in a rock garden or among other compact evergreens.
Plant in full sun with well-drained soil. Water the root zone during establishment and leave room for the branches to develop.
Approximate garden size
• Width: 2 ft; larger with age
• Height: 3 ft; larger with age
These are planning estimates for an established garden plant, commonly reached in 10–25 years, rather than final mature limits.
Hardiness
• Hardy to USDA Zone 4; local summer conditions also affect suitability.
