Pinus Monophylla
Single Leaf Pinyon Pine
Singleleaf Pinyon (Pinus monophylla) is distinguished by needles borne singly along the stems. Their gray-blue color gives the tree a cool, dry-looking texture that differs from the bundled needles of most familiar pines.
Growth is slow, with a broad upright outline developing over time. It makes an unusual specimen for a conifer collection, especially where the individual needles can be inspected at close range.
Choose a sunny position with soil that drains freely. Water during establishment and leave enough room for the branches to develop without crowding.
