Pinus Mugo Carsten's Wintergold

Carsten's Winter Gold Mugo Pine

Carsten’s Wintergold Mugo Pine (Pinus mugo ‘Carsten’s Wintergold’) is a low, spreading evergreen whose strongest color arrives in winter. Short needles change from light green during the growing season to a richer gold as cold weather develops.

Colder conditions generally produce the more vivid display. Its broad, compact form works well among rocks or in a low conifer grouping, where the winter color can brighten the whole composition.

Choose a sunny position with soil that drains freely. Water during establishment and leave enough room for the branches to develop without crowding.
