Pinus Mugo Mops
Dwarf Mountain Pine 'Mops'
Pinus mugo ‘Mops’
Mops Mugo Pine forms a dense dome of closely and evenly arranged needles. The foliage is predominantly green, with a cooler cast during much of the year and warmer tones possible in winter.
Its compact shape develops naturally without routine shearing. Use it to provide a rounded evergreen mass at the front of a bed, allowing room for gradual broadening.
Plant in full sun with well-drained soil. Water the root zone during establishment and leave room for the branches to develop. A site with cool summers generally suits this pine better than prolonged hot, humid conditions.
Approximate garden size
• Width: 4 ft; larger with age
• Height: 4 ft; larger with age
These are planning estimates for an established garden plant, commonly reached in 10–25 years, rather than final mature limits.
Hardiness
• Hardy to USDA Zone 2; local summer conditions also affect suitability.
