Physostegia Virginiana 'Variegata'
Variegated Obedient Plant
Variegated Obedient Plant (Physostegia virginiana ‘Variegata’) brings color to the border before its flowers open. Green leaves edged in cream line the upright stems, creating a light, patterned clump among solid green foliage.
Pale lavender-pink flowers appear in summer, arranged along vertical spikes. The combination of striped leaves and upright blooms gives the planting interest at two levels. This selection is generally less vigorous in its spread than typical obedient plant and dies back for winter.
Grow in sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. Keep it supplied with water during dry spells for good foliage and flowering. Place it where neighboring plants will not hide the leaf margins, and leave space for the clump to widen gradually.
