Malus Guinevere
White Crabapple
Malus ‘Guinevere’ is a dwarf flowering crabapple prized for its compact, rounded habit, fragrant blooms, and persistent bright red fruit. Deep carmine to mauve-red buds open to white flowers with a soft mauve tint in mid spring, often creating a two-tone effect. The foliage is dark green with burgundy to wine-toned overtones, and fall color can develop orange tones.
Type: Flowering crabapple tree
Mature Size: 12–15' wide x 6–10' high
USDA Zones: 4a–8b
Form: Rounded, low, spreading
Light: Full sun
Soil / Water: Well-drained soil / moderate moisture
Bloom Time / Length: Mid spring / 1–2 weeks
Wildlife: Bees visit the flowers; persistent fruit may attract birds later in the season.
Features & Landscape Uses: Excellent for small gardens, tight corners, foundation plantings, and other spaces where a full-sized crabapple would be too large. Its naturally dwarf, broad form can resemble a small Japanese maple in outline, and the red fruit adds fall and winter interest. It is generally noted for good disease resistance.
Care: Plant in full sun with good air circulation for best flowering and fruiting. Water regularly while establishing, then during dry spells as needed. Pruning is usually minimal because of its naturally compact shape; remove only damaged, crossing, or stray branches in late winter if needed.
