East Friesland Meadow Sage
East Friesland Meadow Sage (Salvia nemorosa ‘Ostfriesland’) fills a compact clump with upright violet-blue flower spikes. Pink-toned bracts add a subtle second color, most noticeable when the flowers are viewed at close range.
The straight stems rise above a bushy base of green leaves, creating a useful contrast with rounded or spreading plants. Its summer and fall flowers lend themselves to repeated groups along a border, where the narrow spikes provide a clear rhythm through softer foliage.
Choose a sunny position with reasonably fertile soil and good drainage. Light shade is tolerated, though stronger light generally supports better flowering.
