Acer cissifolium (Vineleaf Maple) is a graceful, medium-sized deciduous maple native to Japan, valued for its unusual trifoliate leaves, elegant form, and excellent fall color. Unlike most maples, the leaves resemble those of a vine, with three narrow leaflets that give the tree a light, refined texture.

Foliage emerges fresh green in spring, remains clean and attractive through summer, and turns brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and red in fall. The tree develops an upright to rounded habit, often multi-stemmed, with smooth gray bark that adds subtle winter interest.

Acer cissifolium grows best in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It is adaptable but performs best in protected sites away from extreme heat and wind. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8.
