Abies pinsapo ‘Aurea’ is a striking golden form of Spanish fir, valued for its bright yellow to golden new growth that contrasts beautifully with the older green needles. Like the species, the short, stiff needles are arranged radially around the stems, creating a bold bottle-brush texture unlike most firs.

It develops a dense, pyramidal to broadly conical habit with a strong central leader and slow to moderate growth. Color is best in full sun, where the golden tones are most intense, especially on spring growth.

Aurea’ prefers well-drained soils and tolerates limestone and slightly alkaline conditions, making it more adaptable than many firs. Best performance is in cooler, well-aerated sites with protection from extreme heat. Hardy in USDA Zones 6–8, this cultivar is most often used as a specimen or collector conifer, prized for its dramatic color, unusual foliage, and architectural form.
