Siberian Fir

Abies sibirica (Siberian Fir) is a cold-hardy evergreen conifer native to northern Russia and Siberia, valued for its soft texture, rich green color, and exceptional tolerance of extreme cold. The short, flat needles are deep glossy green on top with bright silvery-white undersides, giving the tree a refined, two-toned appearance. Needles are soft to the touch and aromatic when crushed.

It develops a narrow pyramidal to conical habit with a strong central leader and dense branching, maintaining a tidy, symmetrical form with age. Growth is slow to moderate, especially in colder climates.

Siberian fir prefers cool summers, moist, well-drained soils, and full sun to partial shade. It performs best in northern regions and does not tolerate heat or drought well. Hardy in USDA Zones 2–6, it is one of the most cold-tolerant firs available.

Landscape uses include specimen planting, windbreaks, large landscape groupings, and botanical collections. Abies sibirica is prized for its extreme cold hardiness, soft foliage, and classic fir form, making it an excellent choice for northern and high-elevation landscapes.
