Acer Japanicum 'Beni Kawa'

Beni-kawa Japanese Maple, Japanese Maple

Acer japonicum ‘Beni Kawa’ is a distinctive Japanese maple prized for its coral-red young bark and refined four-season interest. New stems glow salmon to red-pink, especially vivid in winter, gradually maturing to softer tones with age.

Leaves are broad and softly lobed, emerging fresh green in spring, remaining clean through summer, and turning brilliant shades of orange, red, and gold in fall. Compared to many Acer palmatum cultivars, ‘Beni Kawa’ has a slightly bolder leaf texture and a calm, elegant presence.

It develops an upright to rounded habit with graceful branching. Best color and foliage quality occur in partial shade, with protection from hot afternoon sun. It prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and consistent moisture. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8.

Mature size:

Height: 15–20 ft

Width: 15–20 ft

Ideal for specimen planting, woodland gardens, winter-interest landscapes, and Asian-inspired designs, Acer japonicum ‘Beni Kawa’ is valued for its showy bark, reliable fall color, and refined form.
