Acer palmatum ‘Aka Shigitatsu Sawa’ is a highly ornamental variegated Japanese maple prized for its marbled pink, cream, and green foliage. Leaves emerge in spring with dramatic rose-pink and coral tones, intricately veined with green and cream, creating a watercolor-like effect. As the season progresses, colors soften to green with pale variegation, then finish with warm pink, orange, and red highlights in fall.

The tree develops an upright to rounded habit with graceful branching and moderate growth. Because of its delicate coloration, it is best appreciated as a close-up specimen where the leaf detail can be fully enjoyed.

‘Aka Shigitatsu Sawa’ performs best in partial shade, where colors are richest and leaf scorch is minimized. It prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and protection from hot afternoon sun and drying winds. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8.
