Sugar Maple Sweet Shadow

The ‘Sweet Shadow’ maple typically grows 45-50’ tall and 35' wide. It has a rounded to vase-shaped growth habit. Light yellow-green flowers appear in clusters in early spring before the leaves emerge becoming clusters of paired samaras that mature in summer. It’s deeply cut 5 lobed green foliage that spans 6 inches wide flush out in early spring and will hold it’s color  through summer eventually changing to orange color in the fall. Flowers give way to (to 1 3/4” long) with nearly parallel wings. Samaras mature in late summer. U.S. Plant Patent PP2139 issued in 1962. was issued to Eugene S. Boerner. There is quite a back story on him.
