Phlox Paniculata 'Red Super'
Garden Phlox Red Super
Phlox paniculata ‘Red Super’ is an upright herbaceous perennial garden phlox grown for large, fragrant panicles of cherry-red to deep rosy-red flowers. The flower clusters appear on stiff stems in mid to late summer and may continue into early fall. It is useful in perennial borders, cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, and cut-flower plantings, especially where a strong red-pink summer color is wanted. Kiefer Nursery lists it as a garden phlox cultivar reaching about 2 ft. tall with cherry-red flowers in 6–9 in. terminal panicles.
Type: Herbaceous perennial
Mature Size: 18–24 in. wide x about 24 in. tall
USDA Zones: 4a–8b
Form: Upright clump-forming perennial
Light: Full sun to part sun
Soil / Water: Fertile, moist, well-drained soil; keep evenly moist during summer heat and drought
Bloom Time / Length: Mid to late summer, sometimes into early fall; about 4–6 weeks

Features & Landscape Uses: Cherry-red flower clusters; fragrant blooms; stiff upright stems; good cut flower; useful in mixed perennial borders, cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, mass plantings, and summer color beds. The darker red-pink color pairs well with white phlox, purple coneflowers, ornamental grasses, black-eyed Susans, and silver foliage.
Care: Space plants well for air circulation to reduce powdery mildew. Water at the base rather than overhead when possible. Mulch to keep roots cool and soil moisture even. Deadhead spent flower clusters to keep plants tidy and encourage continued bloom. Divide clumps every few years if flowering declines.
