Akita yatsubusa Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Akita Yatsubusa’ is a dwarf Japanese maple prized for its dense, compact habit and finely textured foliage. Leaves are small and closely spaced, emerging fresh green in spring, holding a clean green through summer, and turning brilliant shades of orange, red, and scarlet in fall.

True to the yatsubusa group, this cultivar has very short internodes, creating a tight, layered structure with excellent natural form and little need for pruning. Growth is slow, making it ideal for small spaces.

It performs best in partial shade with moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil, and benefits from protection from hot afternoon sun and drying winds. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8.
