Malus sargentii Pink Princess
Pink Princess Crabapple
Malus sargentii ‘Pink Princess’
A dwarf ornamental crabapple, usually grown as a broad-spreading shrub or very small tree, with purplish buds that open to rose-pink spring flowers, followed by small deep red fruit that matures in fall and often persists into winter. Its low, horizontally branched, slightly pendulous habit makes it especially useful where a wider-than-tall crabapple is desired.
Type: Ornamental tree / large shrub
Mature Size: 12–15' wide x 6–8' high
USDA Zones: 4a–8b
Form: Broad-spreading, horizontally branched, slightly pendulous
Light: Full sun
Soil / Water: Average to moist, well-drained soil; moderate water
Bloom Time / Length: Spring; brief but showy
Wildlife: Bees, birds
Features & Landscape Uses: Excellent for specimen planting, shrub borders, island beds, slopes, and small landscapes where a low, layered crabapple is needed. The rose-pink flowers, compact spreading habit, and persistent red fruit provide strong multi-season interest.
Care: Plant in full sun for best flowering and fruiting. Grow in well-drained soil, water regularly during establishment, and prune lightly only as needed to maintain structure and preserve the natural horizontal branching habit.
