Mazus reptans

A low-growing perennial groundcover with creeping stems that root at the nodes, forming a dense carpet of bright green foliage. In late spring to early summer, it produces small purplish-blue, tubular, two-lipped flowers with white and yellow markings just above the foliage. It stays green through the growing season and well into fall, and can be evergreen in mild winter climates.

Features & Landscape Uses: Excellent between stepping stones, along paths, in rock gardens, at pond edges, and in moist spots where a soft, flowering carpet is wanted. It tolerates light foot traffic and has even been recommended as a lawn alternative for shady areas.

Care: Grow in evenly moist soil and avoid letting it dry out for long periods. It spreads by runners, so trim edges if you want to keep it contained. Best performance is usually in moist sites with some afternoon protection in hotter areas.
