Miscanthus sinensis ssp. condensatus 'Cabaret'

Cabaret Silvergrass

Miscanthus sinensis ssp. condensatus ‘Cabaret’ is a dramatic ornamental perennial grass with broad, arching leaves boldly striped with creamy-white centers and dark green margins. It forms a large, fountain-shaped clump and produces airy pink to reddish plumes in late summer to fall that mature to tan or creamy-white, adding strong winter texture. Its bold variegation makes it especially useful as a specimen, backdrop, screen, or bright accent in large borders.

Type: Ornamental grass / perennial
Mature Size: 4–6 ft. wide × 6–8 ft. tall
USDA Zones: 5a–9b
Form: Large, upright-arching, rounded fountain clump
Light: Full sun to part sun
Soil / Water: Average to well-drained soil; medium water, drought tolerant once established
Bloom Time / Length: Late summer to fall; plumes may remain attractive into winter
Wildlife: Deer and rabbit resistant; provides winter cover and texture

Features & Landscape Uses:
Excellent as a bold specimen grass, large border accent, soft screen, mass planting, foundation backdrop, or winter-interest plant. The wide, striped foliage is brighter and more dramatic than many other Miscanthus selections, giving it strong presence even before it blooms.

Care:
Cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Divide in spring when clumps become too large or begin to thin in the center. Best variegation, strongest form, and heaviest bloom occur in full sun.
