Miscanthus sinensis Gracillimus

Japanese Silvergrass

Miscanthus sinensis ‘Gracillimus’ is a graceful ornamental perennial grass known for its very fine, narrow green foliage with a soft, arching habit that creates a flowing, fountain-like form. Coppery-red to pinkish plumes appear in late summer to fall, rising above the foliage and aging to silvery-white, often remaining attractive into winter. The foliage turns warm bronze to tan in fall, adding strong seasonal texture and movement to the landscape.

Type: Ornamental grass / perennial
Mature Size: 4–6 ft. wide × 5–7 ft. tall
USDA Zones: 5a–9b
Form: Upright, arching, vase-shaped clump
Light: Full sun
Soil / Water: Average to well-drained soil; medium water, drought tolerant once established
Bloom Time / Length: Late summer to fall; plumes can persist into winter
Wildlife: Deer and rabbit resistant; provides winter cover and texture

Features & Landscape Uses:
Excellent as a specimen grass, background plant, soft screen, border accent, mass planting, or for adding movement and winter interest. Its fine texture makes it one of the most elegant Miscanthus cultivars and useful where a tall but airy vertical element is needed.

Care:
Cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Divide in spring when clumps become too large or begin to thin in the center. Best form and flowering occur in full sun.
