Nandina domestica ‘Monum’, sold as Plum Passion®, is an upright evergreen to semi-evergreen shrub grown for bold, changing foliage color. New growth emerges deep purple-red in spring and summer, matures to dark green, then turns rich reddish-purple again in fall and winter. It has a taller, more upright habit than dwarf nandinas like ‘Fire Power’ and works well as a colorful accent, foundation shrub, hedge, mixed-border plant, or mass planting. It may produce small white flowers in late spring to summer followed by red berries.

Use caution where Nandina domestica is considered invasive, especially in warmer southeastern areas.

Care:
Plant in well-drained soil and water regularly during establishment. Prune selectively in late winter or early spring by removing older or damaged stems at the base rather than shearing. Best foliage color develops in sun, though afternoon shade can help in hot climates. Remove berries or spent flower clusters if reseeding or wildlife toxicity is a concern.
