Spirea Ogon
Golden Bridalwreath
Ogon Spirea (Spiraea thunbergii ‘Ogon’) opens small white flowers on its branches before the leaves emerge in spring. Narrow leaves then bring golden yellow color, softening toward yellow-green as summer progresses.
Arching stems give the shrub a light, willowy texture. Orange and pinkish-orange autumn tones extend the season, making it useful as a foliage accent, an informal hedge, or a specimen in a mixed border.
Choose a sunny site for the strongest leaf color, with moist soil that drains well. Light shade is tolerated. Prune after the spring flowers have faded if shaping is needed.
