Montezuma Baldcypress

Montezuma bald cypress is a large conifer with a broad crown, fine green needles and gently drooping branchlets. Older trees can develop massive, buttressed trunks with shredding bark. Foliage may remain evergreen in warm conditions or shed during cold or dry periods.

Grow in sun or partial shade. It tolerates wet ground and occasional flooding, and established trees can withstand drought. Give it substantial space in a park, large garden or waterside planting. Winter hardiness varies by site; cold damage can occur in central Texas and farther north.
