Stipa Tenussima
Mexican Feather Grass
Mexican Feather Grass moves readily in a breeze, its hair-fine green leaves forming a soft fountain. Silvery flower strands develop through summer and fall, followed by feathery seed heads and tan foliage.
The plant produces abundant seed and can escape cultivation. It has become invasive in some regions, including parts of California, so its suitability depends on local conditions. It also struggles in the hot, humid climate of the southeastern United States.
Use a sunny to lightly shaded site with freely draining soil. Established plants tolerate drought, but may rest during prolonged hot, dry weather. Avoid persistently wet soil, which can lead to root problems.
