‘Reliance’ is a very cold-hardy deciduous fruit tree known for producing medium to large yellow-fleshed peaches with red-blushed skin. The fruit is soft, juicy, sweet to mildly sweet, and useful for fresh eating, canning, baking, freezing, and preserves. Spring brings pink blossoms before the green foliage develops, followed by a mid- to late-summer peach crop. ‘Reliance’ is especially valued in colder climates where many peaches are less reliable, though late spring frosts can still damage flowers and reduce crops.

Excellent for small orchards, edible landscapes, backyard fruit gardens, sunny borders, and cold-climate fruit plantings. ‘Reliance’ is especially useful where winter hardiness is a priority. The fruit is commonly used for fresh eating and canning, and Gurney’s describes it as a favorite canning peach with freestone fruit.

Care:
Plant in full sun with good air circulation. Prune annually during dormancy to maintain an open-center shape, control height, and encourage productive 1-year-old wood. Thin young fruit after set to improve fruit size and reduce limb breakage. Watch for common peach problems such as peach leaf curl, brown rot, bacterial leaf spot, canker, borers, plum curculio, oriental fruit moth, mites, and aphids.

Pollination:
Self-pollinating / self-fertile, so one tree can produce fruit; nearby peach or nectarine varieties may improve overall fruit set.
