Lonicera x 'Mandarin''

Mandarin Hybrid Honeysuckle

Lonicera × ‘Mandarin’ (Mandarin Honeysuckle) is a vigorous, twining deciduous vine with glossy dark green foliage that often emerges copper-purple. Large clusters of tubular flowers open in vivid mandarin-orange tones with yellow to yellow-orange interiors, blooming heavily in early summer and then repeating intermittently into fall. This cultivar is especially valued for its bright tropical-looking color, hummingbird appeal, and sterile, non-invasive habit.

Type: Vine
Mature Size: 4–6' W × 15–20' H
USDA Zones: 4a–9b
Form: Twining, climbing

Light: Full sun to part shade
Soil / Water: Well-drained, fertile soils; moderate water, prefers even moisture during establishment and tolerates some drought once established
Bloom Time / Length: Early summer to fall; heavy first flush with intermittent rebloom

Wildlife: Hummingbirds, butterflies, pollinators

Features & Landscape Uses:
Excellent for arbors, trellises, fences, pergolas, and scrambling through supports where bold flower color is desired. The orange and yellow blooms stand out well against the dark foliage, and its sterile habit makes it a better-behaved choice than more invasive honeysuckles.

Care:
Provide sturdy support and prune as needed to shape or control growth after the main bloom. Best flowering occurs in sun, though it tolerates part shade. Water regularly the first season, then during prolonged dry spells.
