Populus tremula

Aspen

European Aspen (Populus tremula) becomes a large deciduous tree with a broad, well-branched crown. Its gray-green leaves hang from flattened stalks, giving the foliage its characteristic trembling movement.

Smooth, yellow-gray bark provides a pale contrast to the canopy. The tree produces root suckers, so it is best placed where outward spread can be accommodated or managed.

Grow in sun or partial shade and leave generous space around the root zone.
