cer miyabei ‘Rugged Ridge’ is a tough, dependable shade tree selection of Miyabe maple valued for its strong structure, thick glossy foliage, and outstanding tolerance of urban conditions. Leaves are noticeably heavy-textured and dark green, holding well through heat and wind with excellent resistance to scorch. Fall color is typically clear yellow to yellow-orange, providing a clean, understated autumn display.

This cultivar develops a dense, upright-oval to rounded crown with a strong central leader and sturdy branching, making it highly resistant to storm damage. Growth is moderate, resulting in a long-lived, low-maintenance tree.

‘Rugged Ridge’ thrives in full sun to partial shade and adapts well to a wide range of soils, including clay, compacted, and alkaline soils, as long as drainage is adequate. It tolerates heat, drought once established, wind, pollution, and urban stress exceptionally well. Hardy in USDA Zones 4–8.
