Peony Coral Charm
Peony Coral Charm
Paeonia ‘Coral Charm’ is a showy herbaceous hybrid peony with glossy green foliage and large, semi-double to bowl-shaped flowers that open rich coral-pink to coral-orange, then soften to salmon, peach, and creamy tones as they mature. It blooms in late spring to early summer and is valued for its unusual color, strong stems, early bloom season, and excellent cut-flower quality. The American Peony Society registry describes it as a huge bowl-shaped coral flower and notes that it received the American Peony Society Gold Medal in 1986.
Type: Herbaceous perennial
Mature Size: 24–36 in. wide × 28–36 in. tall
USDA Zones: 3a–8b
Form: Upright, rounded clump with strong flowering stems
Light: Full sun to part shade
Soil / Water: Fertile, well-drained soil; moderate water, especially during establishment and bud development
Bloom Time / Length: Late spring to early summer; usually 7–10 days of main bloom, longer in cool weather
Wildlife: Flowers may attract bees; generally deer and rabbit resistant
Features & Landscape Uses:
Excellent for perennial borders, cottage gardens, cutting gardens, foundation plantings, formal gardens, and specimen plantings. The changing coral-to-peach flower color pairs beautifully with white peonies, blue salvia, catmint, iris, allium, nepeta, hardy geraniums, roses, and ornamental grasses. RHS lists Paeonia ‘Coral Charm’ as an herbaceous perennial and shows it with the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Care:
Plant crowns shallowly, with eyes about 1–2 inches below the soil surface. Provide full sun, good air circulation, and avoid soggy soil. Although stems are fairly strong, support can help keep the large blooms upright after rain. Deadhead after flowering, leave foliage through summer to feed the roots, then cut stems to the ground after frost.
