Krinkled White Garden Peony

Paeonia lactiflora ‘Krinkled White’ is a herbaceous perennial peony with large, single white flowers and a bright golden-yellow center of stamens. The petals are softly crinkled and crepe-paper-like, giving the bloom a light, informal look compared with heavy double peonies. It forms an upright clump of glossy green divided foliage and is known for sturdy stems that usually do not need staking. This older cultivar was introduced by Brand in 1928 and remains popular because of its clean white flowers, rain resistance, and good garden performance.

Features & Landscape Uses:
Excellent for perennial borders, cottage gardens, white gardens, cutting gardens, specimen planting, mass planting, and mixed sunny beds. ‘Krinkled White’ is especially useful where a clean, simple white peony is wanted without the weight of large double flowers. It works well with iris, salvia, catmint, allium, nepeta, baptisia, and other late-spring to early-summer perennials. Its single flower form also holds up better after rain than many double peonies.

Care:
Plant peony eyes about 1–2 inches below the soil surface; planting too deeply can reduce flowering. Provide good air circulation and water at the base when possible. Remove spent flowers after bloom, but leave foliage through summer so it can feed the roots. Cut stems to the ground after frost in fall and remove old foliage from the garden. This cultivar usually has strong enough stems to avoid staking.
