Phlox paniculata 'Little Boy'

Little Boy Garden Phlox

Phlox paniculata ‘Little Boy’ is a compact herbaceous perennial garden phlox with rounded clusters of lavender-purple to pinkish-purple flowers, each with a small lighter center or eye. It has a shorter, bushier habit than many tall garden phlox varieties, making it useful near the front or middle of perennial borders, cottage gardens, pollinator plantings, and smaller garden spaces. Garden phlox blooms in mid to late summer and is valued for fragrant flower clusters that attract garden wildlife.

Type: Herbaceous perennial
Mature Size: 18–24 in. wide x 20–30 in. tall
USDA Zones: 4a–8b
Form: Compact upright clump
Light: Full sun to part sun
Soil / Water: Fertile, moist, well-drained soil; keep evenly moist, especially during heat or drought
Bloom Time / Length: Mid to late summer; about 4–6 weeks
Wildlife: Attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds

Features & Landscape Uses: Compact size; lavender-purple flower clusters; fragrant blooms; good for perennial borders, cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, edging, and cut flowers. Works well planted in groups for a stronger color effect.

Care: Provide good air circulation to help reduce powdery mildew. Water at the base instead of overhead when possible. Deadhead spent flower clusters to keep plants tidy and encourage additional bloom. Cut stems back after flowering or after frost, and divide clumps every few years if vigor declines
