Picea abies 'Formanek'
Formanek Norway Spruce
Formanek Norway Spruce (Picea abies ‘Formanek’) is a creeping evergreen whose branches follow the ground in a dense green carpet. Short needles cover the spreading stems, giving the plant a low, textured presence beside rocks and paving.
Its outline depends strongly on how it is grown. Left unsupported, it spreads outward and drapes over edges. Training a stem upward creates a raised framework from which the branches hang. Allow room for that outward growth and choose the training style before planting.
Grow in sun with moist, well-drained soil. Cool summers suit Norway spruce best; avoid waterlogged sites and prolonged drying while roots establish.
