Picea orientalis 'Shadow's Broom'
Shadow's Broom Oriental Spruce
Shadow’s Broom Oriental Spruce (Picea orientalis ‘Shadow’s Broom’) has small, glossy needles that mature to a deep green. Fresh spring growth is noticeably lighter, briefly outlining the dense network of short branches.
Young plants can have a hollowed or nest-like center. A leader often develops later, turning the low juvenile shape into a broad upright mound. Its measured growth and dark foliage make it a useful contrast beside gold or blue conifers.
Use a well-drained site and water during establishment. Protect young plants from drying winter winds and excessive summer heat.
