Blue Spruce
Colorado Blue Spruce (Picea pungens) is a large evergreen with stiff, sharply pointed needles and a strong pyramidal outline. Foliage ranges from green to silvery blue, and the layered branches give the crown a clear, architectural structure.
Its year-round canopy works as a specimen or a spacious privacy screen. Lower branches can extend close to the ground, so allow a generous planting footprint. This Rocky Mountain native is better suited to cooler regions than to persistently hot, humid sites.
Plant in sun with well-drained soil and water during establishment. Cool, relatively dry climates suit Colorado spruce better than hot, humid summers.
