Picea pungens 'Procumbens'
Prostrate Colorado Blue Spruce
Procumbens Colorado Blue Spruce (Picea pungens ‘Procumbens’) spreads close to the ground in an uneven carpet of blue foliage. Its branches follow the contours around stones and can hang over a retaining wall or raised bed edge.
The low form provides evergreen coverage with more structure than a typical herbaceous groundcover. It needs room to spread, and its shape is most effective where the surrounding layout lets the branches wander. Use a sunny position to keep the foliage well developed.
Plant in sun with well-drained soil and water during establishment. Cool, relatively dry climates suit Colorado spruce better than hot, humid summers.
