Picea pungens 'Hoopsii'

Hoops' Blue Spruce

Hoopsii Colorado Blue Spruce (Picea pungens ‘Hoopsii’) is grown for long, thick needles with a bright silver-blue color. The foliage gives this upright evergreen a strong visual presence even when viewed across a large garden.

The tree develops a pyramidal crown and becomes a substantial specimen. Young plants may need help establishing a straight leader, after which the branching framework can develop around it. Give the lower limbs enough room to show the tree’s full outline.

Plant in sun with well-drained soil and water during establishment. Cool, relatively dry climates suit Colorado spruce better than hot, humid summers.
