Picea pungens 'Montgomery'
Montgomery Blue Spruce
Montgomery Colorado Spruce (Picea pungens ‘Montgomery’) has silver-blue needles and a dense, compact crown. Young plants are often rounded, giving a low planting a concentrated patch of evergreen color.
A leader can develop as the plant ages, producing a broader upright form. It therefore needs more long-term space than its juvenile globe suggests. Use it as a focal point in a conifer collection or a generous mixed border, where its gradual change in shape is welcome.
Plant in sun with well-drained soil and water during establishment. Cool, relatively dry climates suit Colorado spruce better than hot, humid summers.
