Polystichum munitum
Swordfern
Western sword fern (Polystichum munitum) makes a substantial clump of long, arching fronds with finely toothed leaflets. Its evergreen to partly evergreen foliage gives shaded plantings a strong, layered texture.
Its structure combines clumping growth and upright growth. The foliage supplies a year-round framework.
Choose a partly to fully shaded site. Provide acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil and maintain even moisture. Protect the fronds from strong sun.
